2013 Hall Platinum Collection: The Bishop

Updated: Jan 30, 2023

Ah, Kathryn Hall. One of my great wine heroes and one of the most badass women in the wine industry!

Kathryn Hall is no stranger to the industry. Her family purchased a California vineyard in the 70's, so she basically grew up around it, and managed the vineyard from 1982 to 1992. But wine isn't her only claim to fame! In fact, she has many! She is a NYT Best Selling Author and has had an incredible career as a lawyer and an activist, spearheading efforts for affirmative action programs and social issues through the years. She was even the US Ambassador to Austria for several years before returning to winemaking in 2001!

She is now the proprietor for both HALL and WALT wines. While everything I have had from both wineries has been wonderful, the Hall Platinum Collection truly reaches another level of greatness. This 2013 Hall "The Bishop" Cabernet is an absolute stunner. The platinum collection wines are always blends of the best barrels, and this one focuses on Cabernet Sauvignon from Diamond and Howell Mountains with a bit of estate Merlot blended in. It was rich and bold, with a baking spice background that supported layers of black fruit notes and coffee. A gorgeous wine to pair with your next steak night!

While this vintage may be tough to find and the platinum collection is highly allocated, you may find luck in the secondary market trying to find one of these seductive bottles! Happy hunting!

Cheers, y'all!
